Baker has a new book out
Tired
of the market cultists who sacrifice other people?
Dear Friend of CEPR, ![]() We are happy to announce that Dean Baker has written a new book --- unlike members of Congress, Dean worked through HIS summer recess. Just in time, we might add, as the current debate over the debt ceiling and bad credit ratings has us all down in the dumps. Thankfully, Dean has come to the rescue. In The End of Loser Liberalism: Making Markets Progressive, Dean lays out the ways in which conservatives have structured the supposedly "free" market to support the interests of the wealthy. He then writes a prescription for how it can be restructured so that markets produce more progressive outcomes. We know that times are tough, and that some of you are unemployed, or are facing layoffs. The economy isn't working for the vast majority of workers. We can relate, as CEPR is also struggling to keep up with rising costs and increased demand for our research and analyses. So, we are asking you, our friends, to pay whatever you can for the book. Click here, make a donation to CEPR in whatever amount you can afford, and we will send you the e-book version as soon as it's released (sometime in late August). Every dollar helps, and you can rest assured that all donations will be put to good use, as we promise to keep fighting for the progressive economic policies we all want to see. If you're not in a position to donate right now, that's OK --- just respond to this email and we will send you the e-book free of charge. And we will fight even harder for you and for everyone else who has suffered in this downturn. As Dean says in the book, "For the last three decades, the right has been busily restructuring the economy in ways that ensure that income flows upward. The rules governing markets, written by the rich and powerful, assure that this gravity-defying outcome prevails." We think it's past time to turn things around, and with your help, we'll do what we can to make it happen. Thanks, Dean, Mark and the CEPR Staff |
