African doctor practices alternative medicine in Panama
by Earl Patrick Watson
Dr. Faemos Yao Nyakutse is a medical doctor residing here in Panama.
He studied medicine in St Petersburg, Russia, where he met the
Panamanian who is now his wife, who also studied medicine in Russia.
Because he is not Panamanian, Dr. Yao is unable to practice his
profession in our country. However, he has turned to herbal medicine.
His love for plants and herbs began as a child back in Ghana,
Africa, under the tutelage of his grandfather, who was a traditional
tribal healer. His grandfather's patients were the hospitals'
rejects, those with a lack of funds or incurable diseases. Herbs
gave them extended and better quality lives.
Today Dr. Yao administers mixtures of herbs, along with nutrition
recommendations, for the treatment of digestive, respiratory,
cardiovascular, and female reproductive illnesses. He also treats
patients for arthritis, rheumatism, osteoporosis, diabetes, impotence,
epilepsy, migraine, allergies and anemia. He's also continuing
his education, with the special goal of better treatments for
ailments stemming from malnutrition, through advanced study in
naturopathy and herbology.
