Panama's highbrow Asociacion Cultural AlterArte is bringing in one of Latin
America's hottest theatrical directors and the theater troupe that's the pride
of Ecuador for two performances at the Tetro Nacional. Quito's Teatro Malayervba
will perform "Nuestra Señoras de las Nubes" on May 4 and 5, shows that
are co-sponsored by INAC and the embassies of Ecuador, Spain and Argentina.
The play stars, and is written and directed by, Arístides
Vargas, an Argentine. His co-star is the Spaniard Charo Francés, with
Ecuadoran Pilar Velasco in charge of the set design and lighting. The Teatro
Malayerba has won prizes in Spain and rave reviews around Latin America, but
this is their first appearance in Panama. "Nuestra Señora de las Nubes"
is about a man and a woman exiled from the same place who cross paths and
embellish their memories of the land they were forced to leave.
The Asociacion Cultural AlterArte are six of Panama's leading
intellectuals, who for the past few years have dedicated themselves to bringing
excellent theater, music and poetry from around Latin America to Panamanian
audiences. Tickets for "Nuestra Señora de las Nubes" ($5, $10 and $15)
are available at the Argosy, Campus and Exedra bookstores, at Allegro in San
Francisco, GANEXA in El Cangrejo and El Pez Violeta in Casco Viejo, and at
the Teatro Nacional box office. For more information about the play or AlterArte,
