Theatre Guild to close season with jazz benefit

The Theatre Guild of Ancon, Panama's English-language community theater, will close out its 2000-2001 season with a jazz night on June 16. The night's band leader will be the locally renowned Dino Nugent, and on this night his band will be a septet.

Nugent is a talented keyboard player, composer and arranger in several different genres, and usually plays the role of musical director in the theatrical productions of Bruce Quinn. Though he is well known and highly esteemed among Panama's musicians, few people abroad know of Dino Nugent, which is a shame.

Joining Nugent onstage will be trumpeter Wichi Lopez, a band leader in his own right, bassist Eusebio Dinza, flautist Gretchen Laffitte, Jorge Pinelo on sax and Markus Gilkes and Tony Martinez as the percussion section.

The show starts at 8 pm. Tickets, which you ought to buy in advance if you can, are $15. To reserve your ticket, call 212-0060 or fax 264-4271.
