Sculptor Emily Zhukov, who also contributes to The Panama News, has been hard at work on her new exhibition at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, “Heroes, Saints and Angels.” Noting that “in Norse mythology, even the gods are doomed,” Zhukov says that her abstract sculptures, mostly in aluminum, cement and steel, explore the concept of apotheosis in several different cultures. The show opens on August 16.

Thought and Memory were Odin’s pet ravens, who kept him informed of earthly matters. Unfortunately, their reports did not keep Brunhilde from torching Valhalla. Photo courtesy of Emily Zhukov. Sculpture in aluminum
