Black hair styling --- and Mico
by Earl Patrick Watson
Lelburn Alexander Gordon III (Mico) was born in Panama in the former Canal Zone, the son of a Panamanian member of the US Armed Forces. The family was relocated to the US when Mico was only five months old.
When his mother took a regular job Mico managed the household chores to include combing his younger sisters hair as he prepared her for school.
After high school he enrolled in the then-leading internationally recognized cosmetology school, Debby Howell Beauty Culture, Inc. located in Houston, Texas. Mico graduated first in his Class of 1991, earning the title "King of the Class." He has been a licensed beautician for almost 13 years.
Micos curiosity about his birthplace attracted him to return to Panama. Despite his poor knowledge of Spanish he made his way around Panama City as though he had always been there.
Today Mico is recognized as the "Black with the knack." His skills provide hairstyles for all hair texture and hair cutting. Language is no longer a problem since his "teacher" is the establishments administrator, Tamara Arthur.
