The people who gathered here near the finish line of the season's first cayuco race, as well as those who made it out to the Gamboa Rainforest Resort for the annual Gamboa Regatta sprints, were overwhelmingly local.

There will still be a local majority on hand for the Ocean-to-Ocean race on March 22 through 24, but this year there will be a record number of boats paddled by people who will come to Panama for that purpose, and this year for the first time we'll draw participants from outside the Americas --- Britain's Royal Navy will be sending two crews to compete in the Open Category.
