Camping Resort: quality lunch on the Transistmica

by Eric Jackson

It had been a few years since I did lunch at the Camping Resort. Just north of where the road through the forest preserve meets the Trans-Isthmian Highway, the place is well situated for mid-day travelers between Colon and Panama City to do lunch. But of course this is also a hotel, resort and water park. With the recent opening of a pushbutton just around the corner, it may also be convenient for another sort of clientele at another time of the day.

Anyway, this was a weekend lunch outing with a friend.

Since last I visited, more of the restaurant has been glassed in and air conditioned, but we decided to eat in the outside part because inside the large-screen TV was replaying a soccer game that I had already seen, it wasn't too hot outside, and the patio was quieter.

She ordered the sancocho, I ordered the ribs, and we shared some corvina fingers. This place serves a combination of international and tipico cuisine that's fairly standard for this country.

Everything was good --- prompt service, spotlessly clean premises, laid back atmosphere, good food in ample portions, reasonable prices.

So maybe I won't let years go by before my next visit to the Camping Resort.
