New Fulbright scholars


The Fulbright scholarship program is a US government effort to spread American influence in the world by offering many bright scholars and professionals in foreign countries an opportunity to pursue graduate school educations at US colleges and universities. This year's Panamanians selected under the program are, left to right:

Javier Sanchez, who will study at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY;

Mara Pardo, who will pursue an MBA at California State University in Hayward, CA;

Adriana Sautu, who will pursue a master's degree in ecology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY;

Erika Mouynes, bound for the LLM program at the University of California/Berkeley law school;

Robert Blohm, who until recently was chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy here;

Ran Chen, an architect seeking a master's in urban plannint at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY;

Jeannette Vasquez, who's seeking an interdisciplinary master's degree in business administration and engineering at the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT;

Gisela De Leon, who will study human rights law at the University of Notre Dame law school in South Bend, IN;

Darien Montañez, who is seeking a master's degree in architecture from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA.

Missing from the photo are Aris Castillo, who will study computer science at Syracuse and Zoila de Castillo, who will pursue a doctorate in industrial engineering at Iowa State.
