The British Aid Society maintains this little used bookstore in a garage in Gamboa, and it's one of Panama's better places to find English-language reading material. The society is a charitable organization that was set up in the early days of the former Canal Zone to help the many West Indian old timers who had worked on the canal and then suffered serious hardships because the canal didn't provide a regular pension system for them. These days the society helps older people in need regardless of their origins. To contact the British Aid Society for more information about the bookstore, call Elizabeth Leigh at (507) 276-6331 or send her an email at leighl@gamboa.si.edu.
