It's A Dog's Life

So you might as well enjoy it
Lessons in Assertiveness

Yogi Dog

Dear Sparky,

I live in a tiny apartment overlooking the city. My master works shifts and is often too tired or sleepy to take me for a walk so my big problem is exercise, or rather the lack of it. I know how to use the remote for the television so I don't get too lonely.

Well, the other day I was watching a special on the benefits of Yoga. I tried a few of the stretches, and I especially like the cobra position, the alternate leg pull, and the down dog. These are naturals for me. I have difficulty, however, with the alternate nostril breathing, but I'm determined to lick it. I feel much better already, but I'd like to try some more advanced postures. Any suggestions?

Relaxed in Reno

Dear Relaxed,

Yoga is a wonderful way to relax. I have been greeting the sun since I was a pup. Since humans copied most of the positions from the animal world, you shouldn't have any problems advancing. There's an excellent book that I use called Hum in the Morning - Howl at Night by Krishna Dog. If you have access to the Internet, you can visit his web site at www.Krishnadog. As with any exercise, however, it is always best to take things slowly. Be super careful with the locked lotus position. Never attempt it alone. You may be sorry.

Have a good day.

Sparky
