Lessons in Assertiveness

William Didn't Tell
Dear Sparky,
The other day my master invited me to an open-air concert in the park. I felt honored by the invitation because not many canines are included in these events. We arrived early and found a spot on the hillside with a commanding view. The maestro took his position, the crowd settled, and the music began. It was wonderful. All was going well, and I was howling along to the beat. Then all of a sudden, there were cannon bursts! It was like World War III! I broke from my leash and beat a path home. I don't know what time my master came in, but I hid in the safety of my little house until the sun came up.
What I would like to know is why did they have to ruin a concert with cannon? I think that will be my first and last concert.
Deafened in Deridder
Dear Deafened,
I couldn't agree with you more about the cannon. Why ruin beautiful music with explosions? I've said it before, and I think it bears repeating. Humans love noise. It must have something to do with the shape of their ears. Sorry about the concert.
