REQUISITES FOR CIVIL MARRIAGE
MUNICIPAL FAMILY COURTS IN THE DISTRICT OF PANAMA

FOR PANAMANIANS, OF WHOM ONE OR BOTH RESIDE IN THE DISTRICT OF PANAMA (PANAMA CITY):

1. Birth certificates for both parties. Solicit a free copy at the Registro Civil.

2. Certificates of single status. Solicit a free copy at the Registro Civil.

3. Certificate of prenuptial health, issued within 15 days prior to the wedding date, including the laboratory tests for infectious or contagious diseases and the following:

a. VDRL test for venerial diseases;
b. Blood type test;
c. Hemoglobin electrophoresis;
d. Urinalysis;
e. HIV test, or medical certificate that an AIDS/HIV test has been performed

4. Two (2) witnesses, who must be adults and must not be related to either party within the fourth degree of consanguinity or adoption, or the second degree of affinity (that is, no parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces or nephews, aunts or uncles, cousins, step-parents or in-laws)

5. Birth certificate(s) for any child(ren) of the parties who are to be married and who have not been formally acknowledged as such.

6. Photocopies of the cedulas of the fiancees and of the witnesses.


FOR FOREIGNERS

1. Certificates of birth and of single status in their country of origin, which must be sealed in the event that the fiancee's country of origin is a party to the Convention on this matter, and if not, which must be authenticated by a Panamanian Consul in the country of origin of the docuements. Then, they must be taken to the Ministry of Foreign Relations here in Panama (Department of Legalizations and Authentications), for the purpose of authenticating the signature of the Panamanian Consul in the country of origin of the documents solicited above. In the event that the birth certificate or certificate of single status is in a language other than Spanish, they must be translated by a certified public translator in this country.

2. Two copies of a valid passport, and of an immigration card if you have been here more than 60 days.

3. The same medical test certifications and two witnesses as required above for Panamanian citizens.


STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Appear at the Marriage Court (Juzgado en Turno en Matrimonios) with all of the aforementioned documents AND PHOTOCOPIES OF THE CEDULAS OF THE PARTIES AND THE WITNESSES, in order that the court can effect the marriage on the same day.

Hours of Service to the Public:

8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
