Muñecos are effigies made to be displayed in late December and burned in New Year's bonfires. It's a tradition in parts of the Interior, one that's dying in some places and undergoing a strong revival in others. One of the factors behind the revival is the existence of local contests for best muñeco. These, in the San Carlos corregimiento of Las Uvas, were part of a contest sponsored by legislator Arturo Araúz.
