You need not leave town to go trout fishing if you live in Boquete. The area's streams were stocked with trout during the early 20th century --- the ecological consequences of that introduction of exotic species are not precisely known, due to lack of data about the ecosystem before that event --- and trout has become an important part of the area's economy, lifestyle and cuisine.
