Unlike places like Guatemala, Colombia and South Korea, Panama does not sell its babies to the wealthier countries' adoption industries. International adoptions are discouraged here, but under limited circumstances they can happen. Usually it's a matter of foreigners who are legal residents of Panama for at least a couple of years adopting Panamanian kids during their stay. This site is the US State Department's information sheet for Americans who are thinking about adopting Panamanian children and bringing them to the United States.
