A playhouse in the traditional
style
photos by

At the Escuela
Laguna in Los Santos one of Panama's traditional building styles
was taught to a new generation, with students, parents and
teachers building this little casa de quincha --- a house of mud
and straw --- with students from several other elementary
schools observing. This type of construction is found in many
places in the Interior, and a few of Panama's more advanced
architects have incorporated these materials and techniques into
their modern designs. For a spectacular example of large-scale
and expensive application of this relatively cheap architectural
vernacular, visit the riding club at Coronado.
