CIA factbook on Panama, 2003 version
http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/pm.html
The CIA isn't merely a Murder Incorporated at the disposal of the president of the United States. Mostly it's a research organization, and much of its work is not top secret. This updated basic summary of facts about Panama is one example of the agency's public work. It's generally useful, but those who really know Panama will notice certain flaws, and the subject matter deemed important enough to be included by the editors also says things about the culture of the CIA.

The H. P. Lovecraft Library

If you hear things moving around at night after reading the works herein, you may have trouble sleeping --- unless, of course, you happen to be the spawn of Cthulhu. Howard Philips Lovecraft, most of whose important works were published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales in the 1920s and 1930s, was never treated as a writer of stature in his lifetime. However, his tales of ancient beings slumbering beneath the Earth awaiting the day that they would rise up and retake it from humanity, of dark family secrets and degenerate or tainted lineages, of horrible gods from outer space and amphibious demons from the deep, grew in prestige after his death in 1937 for two major reasons. First, despite Lovecraft's streaks of racism and his embrace of hypotheses about eugenics, the soldiers who smashed a Nazi regime founded on such ideas gobbled up the Providence author's works, which were widely published in cheap anthologies for the entertainment of American military personnel during World War II. Second, despite his obscurity Lovecraft had a few proteges and a loyal following of fans, one of the former being Robert Bloch (author of Psycho), one of the latter being Rod Serling (of Night Gallery fame). Well after his lifetime Lovecraft's works began to appear in other media (e.g., the movie version of his story The Dunwich Horror), and now you'll find his writings online. This is as it should be, because H.P. Lovecraft occupies a place alongside Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King as one of the all-time greatest American writers of the horror genre.
