Casco Viejo Diversity Parade
Survivor motif: pirates or sea dogs?

Beginning on August 20, and running through September 22, Panama City has been and will be celebrating multimedia "Caminos de Maiz" cultural festival, which highlights many different parts of the intricate mosaic that's Latin American society. These photos by Wilson Barton show the Casco Viejo Diversity Parade, wherein Garifuna dancers and percussionists from Honduras and a contingent of Guatemalan stilt dancers and drummers joined forces with arts aficionados and local residents for a romp through the old colonial city center, which is undergoing a lot of renovation. With the exception of one of the neighborhood's street cats, who fled in stark terror with his white fur standing on end and his ears straight back, everyone had a good time.
