"Our
Journey, Our Story, Our Panama" explores the vibrancy of
the Afro-Panamanian experience. This collection of artworks,
both historical and contemporary, celebrates Panamanian heritage
and homeland. While Panama is truly a microcosm of the Americas,
the contributions of the Caribbean people who made Panama their
home during the turn of the century to participate in the
construction of the Panama Canal often goes unrecognized. These
people, and their children after them, were and continue to be
productive members in all areas of Panamanian society both at
home and abroad. This exhibition highlights the work that Afro-
Panamanian artists are doing today, as well as the proud history
and culture that inspires them. Guest curator Onida Coward
Mayers is "pleased to present these eight artists whose
individual works tell very personal stories, but collectively
describe the journey of a people." Join us as we celebrate
100 years of independence from Colombia and 100 years of a
people.
