Born to be Bald
Dear Dr. Mutt,
I'm upset! I want to know why my brother was born with fur, and I'm bald! We have the same mother and the same father, but Pom Pom looks like a powder puff and I look like I stuck my paw in an electric socket. I do have some fur, but not where it counts! Itís only on the top of my head and on my paws and at the end of my tail. The rest of me is slick like a cue ball, and I resent it! Mom says I'm special, but I don't believe her. What's so special about looking like a plucked rooster? Are there any remedies for growing fur? I'm desperate.
Dear Bald,
You don't say what breed you are, but from what you do say, it seems that you belong to a distinguished breed of canines called Chinese Crested. This ancient breed is legendary for its healing powers. When humans are ill, they hold a bald Chinese Crested canine next to their bodies to rid themselves of fevers and other ailments. Notice I said the BALD Chinese Crested. It seems that there can be both bald and powder puff puppies in a litter, and you were the chosen one. There's a reason for your baldness. You are special. You have a gift. You are a "Fever Dog!" So wear your crest with pride.
