Florence painting competition

The first edition of Caterina De' Medici Painting Award took place in Florence, Italy last year (March 9th - 16th 2002). Since it was such a great success, we have the pleasure to announce the second edition of this arresting, exclusive, cultural and tourist event. It will take place in Florence in 2004. The Award will take place between the 21st and the 28th of March 2004, under the Patronage of the city of Florence and with the cooperation of the Department of Popular Traditions and International Relations of the City of Florence. The Award is well described in our website: www.caterinademedici.com. In this website you could find all the artworks of the Painting Award 2002 and many photos. The Award will take place in Florence and the topic will be "Florence and Chianti in the eyes of the world".

The painters will have 5 out of the 8 days to carry out the painting and they could choose subject like artistic views of Florence or panoramic views in the Chianti area.

The International Jury will be composed of:

* Prof. Wole Soyinka - Literature Nobel Prize 1986-Nigeria
* Prof. Antonio Paolucci - Head of the office of the Artistic and Historic Patrimony of Florence, Prato, Pistoia-Italy
* Sandra Buyet - Cultural Expert, Florence Italy
* Prof. Domenico Viggiano - Head of the School of Fine Arts, Florence-Italy
* Carlo Sisi - Director of the Museum of Modern Art at Palazzo Pitti, Florence-Italy.
* Tommaso Paloscia - Journalist and art critic, Florence-Italy.

PRIZES

First Prize- 7,000.00 EUROS, A GOLD MEDAL OFFERED BY PRINCE OTTAVIANO DE'MEDICI OF TUSCANY OF OTTAJANO. A one-week stay for the winner and his or her family at one of Italy's famous "Farm Holiday" resorts.

2nd prize - 4,000.00 EUROS, A SILVER MEDAL. A one-week stay for the winner and his or her family at one of Italy's famous "Farm Holiday" resorts.

3rd prize - 2,000.00 EUROS, A SILVER MEDAL. A one-week stay for two at one of Italy's famous "Farm Holiday" resorts.

4th prize - 1,000.00 EUROS, SILVER MEDAL. A one-week stay for two at one of Italy's famous "Farm Holiday" resorts.

5th prize - 500.00 EUROS, A SILVER MEDAL. A one-week stay for two at one of Italy's famous "Farm Holiday" resorts.

This initiative represents a new type of tourism with a strongly based cultural program. All participants who are passionate about painting are welcome. They may be professionals painters or amateurs.

They may come from Italy or from any part of the world with the cooperation of all the twin-towns with Florence.

The winning entries will remain property of our organization and will be donated to the City of Florence.
