During the first half of 2002, The Panama News readership was hovering around 10,000 visits per month, usually a bit less, and had been at that level for more than a year. We have grown since then, nearly four-fold to more than 36,000 visits in November. We expect a dip in readership for December, because the Internet is something like television to the extent that people who are busy with school finals, Christmas shopping and family gatherings spend a bit less time in front of video screens. But then January, which is typically Death Valley for selling newspaper ads, tends to bring an increase in readership for The Panama News. We believe that cold weather in North America and peak tourist season here in Panama are the main reasons for the January phenomenon. The Panama News is the only Panamanian online publication that publishes the download data that it gets from its web server, as we believe that those who want transparency from government and industry should practice it themselves.
