Lessons in Assertiveness

Bowling Clean
Dear Dr. Mutt,
I'm a cat, and I have a bone to pick with you dogs!
I'm extremely neat and quiet, and I try to stay out of trouble. But the dachshund that lives with us is a pain in the neck, and he's devious. Not only does he run and yelp and disturb the peace, but since he's low to the ground, he has to stretch to reach the water bowl, and yesterday he knocked it over and tracked water all over the living room carpet. Then when the master came home, the dirty dog tried to blame it on me! The nerve! Thank goodness the master has some brains. He knew who the culprit was!
What is it with you canines? Can't you practice a bit of self-discipline?
Bent out of shape in Boston
Dear Bent
Be patient. You are obviously more mature than the dachshund and probably taller so you have no trouble eating and drinking like he does. Try to see things from his perspective.
Now about his blaming you for the disaster: Knowing dachshunds like I do, he was probably just having a bit of mischievous fun with you. Have you discussed this with him? You need to lighten up. If it happens again, try laughing. Who knows, perhaps you could become friends.
