Old hippies may remember --- or at least those who didn't burn out their brains on speed or downers might --- back to the 70s, when one Prem Rawat, qa 14-year-old also known as the Guru Maharaj Ji or The Perfect Master, came out of India on his devotee recruiting and fundraising tour of the rich countrie of the West. The preferred symbolism of this kid, who was touted as the reappeared Jesus Christ and reincarnated Buddha wrapped together and packaged for sale in the Hindu context, was with a sun radiating rainbow rays behind him.

It seems that Arnulfista presidential candidate José Miguel Alemán's new campaign billboards bear a strking resemblance to The Guru's mid-70s posted and buttons. Sadly, we can't find any of those posters to demonstrate exactly how striking the similarities are, but the impression that this old hippie editor perceives has been confirmed by one of The Guru's ex-devotees, who places the poster that looks like Alemán's billboards circa 1976.

Recall that after a few months of lucrative con games, the Guru Maharaj Ji was deposed as Perfect Master --- by his mother, who said that he had turned into a decadent playboy. She appointed his brother as Perfect Master in his place. ("Aaaaaaaaaw MOM!") Apparently uneducated to do much else with his life, The Guru eventually went back to his old ways, but with many fewer followers, a greatly reduced income and far less attention.

So has The Perfect Master reincarnated and appeared in Panama as the Mireyista presidential candidate?

And is it politically correct for an Arnulfista to use Hindu symbolism, given that Arnulfo Arias stripped all Hindus, as well as all other Panamanians of Asian, black West Indian or Middle Eastern ancestry, of their Panamanian citizenship?
