Carnival jobs

Carnival means a long holiday weekend for most Panamanians, but for many others it means temporary work. These men found work putting up the stage and the scaffolding for the sound system at the main center of activity on Panama City's Via España a few days before Carnival. Many of the jobs and contracts with the Panama City official Carnival are distributed on the basis of Mireyista political patronage. But not so with the many vendors at the many party scenes, or with those working at the many stages not run by the national government or its appointees. Photo by Eric Jackson
