Skateboard daredevils
photos by Eric Jackson
In the cities of the United States, a combination of insurance companies, personal injury lawyers and voters who get all their information from fictional TV cop shows and thus "know" that teenage boys are a threat to their lives and property have prevailed upon many a city government to eliminate places for kids to play, and most especially places for kids to play on skateboards.
Here in Panama it's more a problem of municipal governments lacking the funds to build and maintain adequate recreational facilities for kids and a school system that's a Rosas family cash cow which can't be bothered with what kids do after school.
So in these waning days of the annual school vacation, the boys of Perejil have to improvise their playground on the streets and sidewalks. They nevertheless manage to pick up a few good moves and perfect them with practice.
