Hunting Party
Dear Dr. Mutt,
My master took me on a hunting party the other day, but there was nothing party about this trip. We were up before the crack of dawn and in the marsh before the sun woke up. Anyhow, I think I failed my master miserably. I'd like to think that his aim was off and he shot nothing, but I really can't say because I never left the blind. I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy chasing birds and barking at the wind, but I do not like traipsing in below-zero weather and freezing my paws off! All for the hunt? --- Forget it!
So now I'm confined to the pen because I didn't obey. What can I do to obtain my freedom without begging?
Dear Not Called,
You sound like a very mature and intelligent canine. I guess your master never heard of pneumonia. However being penned up can play havoc on the best of personalities and can be so frustrating.
I recommend that you sit tight and watch him. Meditate on your actions and plan your strategy well. If he comes close to your cage, whimper and lick his hand even though you don't feel like it. Then howl as loud as you can and as long as you can. This is very effective, especially if you do it in the middle of the night, every night. He'll get the message, and you'll get your freedom.
Good Luck,
