Does "gruel" translate into Panamanian
as "the fat end of the yucca?"
Bruce Quinn's latest theatrical work has as one of its principal goals the formation of the next generation of the Panamanian theater scene. It's a high school play, "Las Aventuras de Oliver Twist," to be staged at the Instituto Alberto Einstein at the end of the month. The Charles Dickens story about crime and misery in London at a time when poverty was treated as a criminal offense was, of course, adapted to the musical "Oliver." Now Quinn and his usual accomplices (Juan Carlos Adames sharing the director's job, Dino Nugent as musical director) team up with choreographer Patricia Orillac, costume designer Charles Brannan and a cast of high school students from the Instituto to adapt that musical to a Casco Viejo setting.
