Dear Dr. Mutt,

For some strange reason all my brothers and sisters have curly hair, but something weird happened to me. I'm what you might call a straight-haired poodle. The extra ribbons and bows don't bother me as much as the torments. Everybody howls about my straight hair, and the other day I overheard someone mention something about a haystack. I tried asking my mom, but she rolled her eyes and ignored me. Just exactly what do they mean? I'd like to be party to the joke.

You are probably a "love child" --- the product of a spontaneous relationship --- not uncommon in the Canine World, believe me. However, it's not --- who's your daddy --- but who you are that's important. Your mom seems to be at ease with the idea so why worry? Relax. A mixed salad is a healthy salad. Enjoy being unique.
