Dear Dr. Mutt,

My master just adopted this really cute little chick named Mabel. She has pointy ears, whiskers and soft fur --- so cuddly and coy! I've tried everything under the sun to get her to like me, but she keeps hissing and swatting me. The other day I actually licked her face, and she seemed to like it. But then the master started laughing, and that was it. She hunched her back, bared her fangs, and clawed me right across the snout! What made matters worse was the master laughed even louder, and now I'm a persona non grata in my own yard, and Mabel won't even give me the time of day! What can I do?

Dear Flustered,

It sounds to me like Mabel may be a feline, and you don't say if you're a dog or a cat. If she is a cat, and you are a cat, then perhaps you can be more than friends; but that will take time and patience. If you're a dog, however, it's best you forget any possible affair with Mabel. You may eventually become friends, but that's about it. Though felines and canines have been known to bond, it is more rare than common, and it could be dangerous to your health so it's not worth it. Just don't fret over this.
