Those who pay attention to youth sports in Panama --- especially but not exclusively to the survival of American football on the isthmus --- will have heard of the local chapter of the Kiwanis Club and its works. Those of us who covered the grassroots public reaction to the overt sleaze of our previous government will also know that the Kiwanis were one of the civic groups that politely asserted that the situation was intolerable and needed to change. Recently the presidency of the organization passed from Miguel Angel Clare (left) to Raúl Méndez de Obarrio. Kiwanis International is a worldwide service organization of professionals and entrepreneurs, founded in 1915 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
