Edna Cordova

The noted Panamanian seamstress and sewing teacher Mrs. Edna Cordova died on November 11 at the San Fernando Hospital after a brief illness. Her remains were cremated and there was a farewell mass at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Balboa on November 16.

Some years back, one of Edna's weekend sewing seminars at Playa Corona was the subject of coverage in The Panama News. She was not only a master of her art who is survived by many fine pieces of her work, but was also the teacher of many other people in whose work her skills live on.

Among Edna Cordova's surviving familiy members are her nephew Mario Yearwood and her cousin Earl Patrick Watson. (Earl Watson, for his part, is a longtime friend of and occasional contributor to The Panama News.) The family had requested that in lieu of sending flowers, people make contributions to Aldeas Infantiles SOS (the SOS Children's Villages), and though the services to which flowers might have been sent have come and gone, contributions to that worthy charity may still be made in Edna Cordova's name.
