Americans pitch in for Colon recycling education

On November 24 the US Embassy's social projects coordinator, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Asociacion de Mujeres y Familia joined forces with the teachers at Escuela Paraguay in Colon to start a recycling project. Kids at the school will do the work to recycle or reuse many of its waste products, with the real environmental effect not so much the smaller mass of solids to be sent to the dump from the school but the long run effect of having dozens of young citizens in the community with a knowledge and concience about recycling. The ubiquitous trash along Colon's roads is one of the principal impediments to the development of the province's tourism industry.
