Just a few letters this time,
all looking for a little help
Looking for a postcard
Hola!
I would like to find a postcard of the "old Customs House of Portobelo" and maybe a picture.
Can you help me? It's to illustrate my philatelic website.
Very cordially from France,
Editor's note: Hmmmm --- an old postcard of the ruined Customs House, or a new one of the restored building? That restoration project, which was covered in old tabloid edition of The Panama News before we went online, was noteworthy not only because of what it did for the town of Portobelo, but because in order to do the job it was necessary to undertake an international effort of institutions and individuals in Spain and Panama to re-learn such lost arts as coral masonry and old-fashioned mortar mix recipes.
Family tree research
I am the granddaughter of Louise Weekes, who lived and died in Panama. She was a Barbadian. Her son Gladstone Carlisle Weekes was my father. She left him in the care of her sister Malvina Weekes, but they lost contact. Her brother and sisters who returned to Barbados told us that she had other children in Panama. I would like to make a connection. My grandmother was from St. Philip, Barbados. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Fan mail, and a request for a contact
Mr. Jackson, I have enjoyed reading your paper for the past two years.
You seem to cover the important issues with a personal touch that makes the reader comfortable in the validity of what is said. I have been interested in Panama as a place to retire since my first visit, the country and its people have magnetism that I have never encountered anywhere else.
Could you please write more on the things people need to know about buying land or homes in Panama? I need all the help I can get.
Or could you possibly forward this e-mail to the Canadian (J. Malcolm Wilson) that wrote to your letters section this month. He has just become a resident of Panama and I would like to correspond with him if that is possible.
Editor's note: I seem to have deleted the email with Mr. Wilson's address, but if he's reading and wants to make this connection, I will help in the exchange of email addresses.
