Cabanga to represent our region at Chile's Southern Cone Scenic Arts Fair

Panamanian ballerina and choreographer Milvia Martínez's contemporary dance montage "Cabanga" has been selected to represent the Central American region at the Fifth Southern Cone Scenic Arts Fair, to be held in Santiago, Chile in late January. When staged earlier in 2004 in Panama, Cabanga received rave reviews from dance critics and enthusiasts.

As a warmup, and to raise money to defray the costs of the trip, Cabanga will be performed on January 13, at 8 p.m. at INAC's Teatro Anita Villalaz, in a show sponsored by INAC and the University of Panama. Tickets, which are $5 and $10, can be purchased in advance at the Hombre de la Mancha bookstores, Argosy Books, Excedra Books and Allegro.

Martínez, the daughter of poet, playwright, philosopher and political figure Chuchú Martínez, established herself as an artist in Chile, the United States and Japan before returning to Panama to live and work in 2003.
