Organizations launch prize for best
investigative journalism about corruption

by Adital

Transparency International Latin America and the Caribbean (TILAC) and the Institute Press and Society (IPYS), with the support of Open Society Institute (OSI), are establishing the Annual Prize for the Best Investigative Journalimsm on Corruption in Latin America and the Caribbean, which will award a prize of $25,000 to the winning work and two special awards of $5,000 to works of merit.

Investigations published between January 1 and December 31 of 2004 that have discovered relevant aspects of a corruption case through an independent investigation will be accepted. The material can be published in a series of entries or it can be a series of works published about the same case.

According to the coordinator of the contest, Latin American journalism contributes to the knowledge of important examples of corruption in the countries of the region. There are numerous examples, and, without a doubt, the private utilization of public resources continues to be an extended phenomenon, according to studies specializing in this topic.

Journalists or groups of journalists can participate with one or various investigations published in the media of Latin America or the Caribbean in Spanish, Portuguese or English.
