Sudden Impact, Extreme Mr. John
and Chava win at Amador Regatta

This year the first boat across the finish line, and the winner of the male class of the Amador Causeway Regatta, didn't win the race. True, Chava did win in its classification, but because of the increasing popularity of cayuco racing there was a bifurcated start, such that a few minutes after Chava finished with a time of 0:55:00 flat, cayucos competing in the open category, which took off in the second start, came back with times of 0:53:29 (Sudden Impact, mixed class) and 0:54:30 (Extreme Mr. John, male class). Catalina won the female class of the trophy category and Gibtion was the fastest mixed trophy boat. The open women's winner --- one of just two entries in that class --- was High Anxiety. The complete race results are as follow:

Paddlers take your marks! Photo by Eric Jackson

When a ship passes through the Miraflores Locks millions of gallons of water flow out to the Pacific Ocean, which creates currents
along the causeway, which can in turn make people paddle just to keep their places at the starting line. Photo by Eric Jackson
