and looked into a harpy's eyes

and saw intent to reach the sun,

and then a canopy of moments

not yet begun,

of leaf-cups green and full of dew

toasting and hosting, as if they knew

Adam and Eve instead of you.

Hands reach out at every turn,

"Bienvenidos" --- It's time you learn,

"I am sick", "I am hungry,"

It's time you know,

to take accounting

Of all creatures here below.

Welcome to this special place

And join us at a jungle pace,

where a leopard leaps upon its prey

at the same place where you sang today.

So many people from old and worn

to the child at a nipple,

just a few moments born.

The colors, all grades of one human race,

and when they turn they have a Panama face.

One that is trying, and hopeful, and firm

And here we are afraid of a germ.

They are the living, and thriving,

And born to this land.

The fittest surviving,

And where do we stand?

A swirling pollera at the right time of year

Brings pride in tradition and a national cheer.

A Kuna woman with a brief head start

is sure to make the waters part.

When the air blows in, one can smell the bay,

the death of fish, the ocean spray.

When the air blows out, the street is cleansed

and people play in the park again.

The tour boat is coming, more people to bring

And a leopard waits for someone to sing.
