Stranger Things
Dear Dr. Mutt,
Last week when my dad
and I were patrolling the fence, we spied this stranger
sliding slowly across the road toward our yard. He had
beady brown eyes, real long fur and very sharp claws. I
barked at him to stop and identify himself, but he
ignored me and just kept coming real slow-like. Then my
dad barked at him, but he still he kept coming. So we
barked together, but this didn't stop him. This made me
so mad that I actually climbed the fence and nearly went
over the top, but my paw slipped and I fell back down.
Then my dad tried to dig under the fence, but he scraped
his paws because the ground is so hard. By this time the
stranger got real close and stuck his nose through the
fence, and my dad put his nose next to the stranger's,
and they sniffed for a bit. Then the stranger slowly
slid away, climbed the tree on the corner and that was
that.
We still don't know who
he was.
Perplexed in Panama
Dear Perplexed,
By the description you give, the stranger sounds like a
sloth, nicknamed "Lazy Bear" because of the way he moves.
I'm sure you've heard of a bear hug, well, this guy's
grip can be excruciatingly painful so you don't want to
tangle with him.
You're
probably very lucky you didn't make it over the fence.
