So and So, photo by Joel Inwood The So and So show a music review by Joel Inwood Bambito and Cheto, also known as Ivan Lopéz and Omar Smith respectively, got together at the Bocas Marina to play a couple of sets Friday, July 15.The salt flavored breezes blew in out of the night as the group known as So and So played everything from Guantanamera to Hotel California. An audience of around 20 gathered at the marina bar for a potluck and drinks, in the same spot where Jimmy Buffett once stopped off to do a three hour set to an audience of yachties and other locals of about the same size. Especially interesting from the show was a Spanish rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way and a folk song or two to spice up the evening’s second set. There were several maracas players who took turns shaking it up, and at one point a saxophone player joined in. Bambito and Cheto had to work the next morning, so the show wound down kind at around 9 p.m. The duo So and So are available for parties, weddings and any other reason you can come up with. They are both bilingual, like a great many other Bocas del Toro residents. To get a hold of the duo, just ask around town; one of the beautiful things about Bocas is that everybody who has lived there very long seems to know everyone else. If you happen to be having a hard time finding them, one stop by Bocas Marina should solve your problems. It’s only a one Balboa trip from the main drag to get there, and along with being a great Marina they have what they claim could perhaps be the cleanest marina bathroom in the whole Caribbean.
