Some flowers on Taboga

Also known as the Isle of Flowers

photos by Eric Jackson

There aren't many cars on Taboga, the inhabited  island located in Panama Bay, a few miles south of the canal's entrance. Maybe that's why unlike so many other parts of Panama, the flora here are holding their own against the onslaught of pavement. But even before the modern wave of deforestation began to accelerate a few decades ago, Taboga was known for its flowers. It's a lifestyle thing, what with all the retirees and artists who have influenced the Taboga way of life over several generations.
