Photo courtesy of the Presidencia Slum comes down On October 17 a demolition crew from the Ministry of Housing (MIVI) did away with the Casa Miller de Juan Diaz. The decrepit 40-year-old wooden tenement was named after the famous and long ruined Casa Miller in Calidonia --- the residents of the earlier Casa Miller were relocated to these premises after a fire. On the site shown above construction will soon begin on a $140,000, 24-unit concrete public housing structure in which residents of the building being demolished will be moved. Since the Torrijos Administration took office Housing Minister Balbina Herrera has overseen more demolition than construction of low-income housing, but now MIVI is starting to have more new homes to show for its efforts.
