Pining in the Woods

Dear Dr. Mutt,

About a year ago, my yard mate left us for the great Bone Reserve in the Sky. To be honest, we had many tense moments over the food bowl, but we were friends, and lately she’s been on my mind, especially when my mistress takes me for a walk near the old oak where she disappeared. I find myself sniffing the air and howling. Though I’m not one to get bogged down in grief, I feel so low and lonely lately. What’s wrong with me? What can I do?

Dear Despondent,

It sounds to me like you’re just missing your mate, and there’s nothing strange in that. Losing someone we care for leaves a void in our hearts, and though we can get on with our lives, sometimes it’s difficult to fill in the gaps. Try to focus on the happier moments you shared and be of good cheer.
