Dracula, at Academia Balboa
Nosferatus

Academia Balboa undead

by Eric Jackson

The Academia Balboa, the school at the former Fort Clayton that bases itself on the US Department of Defense Schools model, put on a wonderful little Halloween play on October 28 and 29 at the old Valent Recreation Center, a presentation of Dracula roughly based on Bram Stoker's original book. It was a sure hook for this reviewer, who was raised on Lovecraft, used to watch The Ghoul on Detroit's UHF channels as a young adult and will always see "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" again when the opportunity presents itself.

It was, of course, a high school play, with a few stumbles and a few oustanding moments. The kids are just starting to learn the theater crafts, and they were great. They ought to be encouraged by the experience and learn some more.
