More cops on the street for the holidays

Panamanians are not accustomed to seeing so many police officers on the streets when there is no crowd control reason, and for cops from the crowd control unit or other specialties directing traffic. But National Police director Rolando Mirones has trained and deputized all officers to deal with traffic matters and has put more officers on the streets for the traditionally higher-crime holiday season. It's not only intended to scare off the usual maleantes, but also the extra officers are shutting down some of the dangerous games that city bus drivers play and warning that they intend to get more serious about enforcing drunk driving laws.
