Cold water upwelling and plankton in the Gulf of Panama
This issue's orchids

See the
yellow and yellow-green in the Gulf of Panama and adjacent Pacific waters?
Those are blooms of microscopic plankton, as seen by a NASA satellite. Our
waters are where a cool, deep current that comes all the way up the west
coast of South America from the Antarctic finally wells up, bringing nutrients to
the warm surface waters and feeding a chain of life which often ends up on
your dinner plate as corvina al ajillo. Photo by NASA
