Lessons in Assertiveness

Born bold

Dear Dr. Mutt,

Today the little human that crawls around the house pulled my ears and tried to bite me, but the master yanked him away before he did me serious harm. I was grateful for the save, but now I’m really worried. What if he tries it again? Should I bite him back?

Gummed in Gretna

Dear Gummed,

Under no circumstances should you bite the little human, no matter what he does. He’s too young to know better and probably just wanted to give you a kiss. Just put up with the slobber for now. Your master will appreciate it and try to stay out of his way if you can. But once he has teeth and starts walking on his hind legs, then that’s a different story.
