The Association of Chinese-Panamanian Professionals' annual kite festival
photos by Eric Jackson

Like civil service exams, pet goldfish, noodles and firecrackers, kites are one of China's contributions to world culture. Thus the fact that Panama City's annual Kite Festival is sponsored by one of the Chinese community's organizations is no surprise, nor is the event's family orientation, which is a hallmark of that ethnic group's  traditions.

Alas, this photographer again missed the great photo opportunity of this annual event --- the expression of tragedy at the instant that a kid realizes that his or her kite has been gobbled up by a kite-eating tree. But there's always next year.
