Jim Simonsson, a Panagringo by birth, the son of a Costa Rican mother and a 1974 graduate of Balboa High School, died suddenly on March 10 as the result of an accidental fall. On the Internet bulletin boards and email groups about Panama, many knew him as Sumo.

It's still strange for many of us who grew up before the World Wide Web became part of the popular culture to think of people with shared interests who are brought together electronically over the Internet as communities, but these are nevertheless very real. And Jim Simonsson really was one of the pillars of Panama's online English-speaking community.
